Two brothers Ernest and Geno LeRose founded the Home Goods Stores in 1950, though not under that name. At that time the store was known as LeRose Mercantile Ltd, they had an old two storey building which was roughly ten thousand square feet. Selling furniture at a discount they started making a decent living but in 1968 Ernest bought out his brother and decided to carry on the business on his own. In 1979 the company had literally outgrown the building they were in so they moved lock stock and barrel into a thirty five thousand square feet building located between Trail and Castlegar. In 1999 his son Rob renamed the company to Home Goods and bought the business from his dad. He was an active member on the board until his death in 2000.
