Raised Garden Beds

It is almost spring time in many parts of the country and the gardener is itching to get out and start the garden. A garden is wonderful to have as it produces so many different foods that will last the summer and beyond. Many gardeners will can what is left over and can eat from the garden in the winter. Raised garden beds are becoming so popular now, as they are simple to make and not so hard on the back. 

Garden planters, or as some call them, raised garden beds, are wonderful for small areas to either grow flowers or vegetables. There are not as many weeds to contend with, and soil will stay loose. Raised garden beds also are great for good drainage and will be less likely to have so many garden bugs, such as snails and slugs.

There are many different materials to make raised garden beds. One is made of composite timber, being of wood fiber and UV protected polypropylene. These are one hundred percent recycled material. The connecting joints might be made of plastic resin, and is available in many sizes. The can also be stacked for added height. It only takes a few minutes to set up this raised garden. The cost can start at around seventy dollars and can go up from there.

Raised garden beds can also be made of good, rot resistant cedar. They have lapped corners and are held in three eights inch aluminum rods. These come in an assortment of lengths and widths. This type of a raised garden beds come with aluminum cross supports, to prevent bowing. These are for the larger beds of course. These will start around one hundred dollars to over three hundred dollars.

Vinyl raised garden beds are ideal, as they do not need to be painted or stained and they do not rot and are insect proof. They come in various sizes and heights. There is a twenty year warranty on them in case anything should go wrong. Coming in assorted sizes, the price starts around one hundred and sixty and up.

One of the favorites among new gardener is the complete ready to grow raised bed gardens. They are made of weatherproof cedar and redwood; they are mole and gopher proof. They come with a built in watering system and there is a six foot framework for those climbing vegetables. A rabbit proof galvanized fencing also comes with these raised garden beds. It keeps those pesky rabbits from eating all your vegetables.

Top soil for the raised garden beds is very important. The mixture of manure, humus and sand makes a wonderful rich soil that the vegetables or flowers will thrive. This combine is good because it promotes good healthy roots. Vegetables will never taste the same. Rich in flavor and color, they will grow for you and thank you for the rich soil. Plant whatever is in season at the time, then replace those when their time is up. No matter which raised garden beds you chose, you will have hours of enjoyment and wonderful vegetables.
